Processor (CPU)

The Central Processing Unit is essentially the "brain" of the computer. It does the bulk of the processing and co-ordinates all of the other pieces of hardware so your computer works as it should. The processor fetches, interprets, processes and sends information. Each core can function independently, so the more cores, the more it can work on at once. On the other hand, the faster the speed, the quicker it can complete tasks.

Things to look for:
  • Decide whether an AMD or Intel cpu would best suit your needs
  • Cores aren't everything, and speed isn't everything!
  • Each CPU has a specific socket it fits into on the Motherboard
