Memory (RAM)

RAM acts as a middle man between the CPU's cache and the large, super slow storage of your Hard Drive. It’s used to temporarily store working parts of the operating system and data being actively used by applications. Think of the hard drive as a filing cabinet, and RAM as a desk top. The more space you have on this desk, the more stuff you can keep at arm's reach, and the less you'll have to get up and go to the file cabinets.

Things to look for:
  • Memory speed is the most important indicator of performance
  • There are many different types, see what your Motherboard supports
  • RAM works best in pairs, try to buy them in kits
